AHIA started this idea at the end of the pandemic to help our neighbors reconnect. Now these gatherings are very popular. From Spring to Fall, our neighbors gather in a casual front-yard setting to "Wine Down" from the busy week. While neighbors bring a beverage to share, AHIA provides a "Host Kit" to our generous host for opening up their home.

We secure the permit and shredding truck to assist neighbors in their Spring Cleaning and Document disposal. A popular annual event each Spring.

A long-standing tradition, AHIA hosts an annual neighborhood picnic with ALL the fixings for a fantastic day outside; food, treats, games, vendors, door prizes, nieghbors and good old-fashioned FUN!

Our signature event and community favorite. Every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving, our Community gathers at the Colorado Lagoon for the annual countdown to light the trees. Complete with Carolers. Hot Coco, Treats, and Santa!

In the Fall we work on planting parkway trees that are complementary to the existing Magnolia trees in our neighborhood. The program is funded through a Port of Long Beach grant we secured. Our neighbors at the Conservation Corps partner with us on planting the new young trees. Interested in getting a new tree in your parkway?

We are proud to have a working relationship with our city officials to advocate for our neighborhood. As part of our mission, we host a community meeting every year to inform our neighbors. The meeting focuses on the issues that matter most to Alamitos Heights Residents.

The Alamitos Heights Improvement Association (AHIA) would like to thank our Members and 2025 Event Sponsors & Partners for helping to make this year's Annual Tree Lighting extra special for our community. We could not do this without their support, thank you!

We Fund It: Since 1988, a large percentage of our non-profit budget has been dedicated to this tradition. AHIA not only helps fund this event but also helps subsidize “Trees on the Bay” in the Colorado Lagoon.
We Organize It: Our small team of volunteers secures the vendors, arranges for the carolers, the cookies, hot cocoa, and Santa—all while reaching out to sponsors to help cover costs to host this tradition of welcoming in the holiday season.
We Manage It: We are the ones on the ground, managing the logistics, permits, and safety for everyone who attends.

Last year, we had a record turnout of over 500 attendees from all across Long Beach at the Colorado Lagoon. Our small, all-volunteer nonprofit organization simply cannot support the management and security for a crowd of that size.
To ensure we can continue this cherished event safely and sustainably for our neighborhood, we are bringing this holiday tradition back to the heart of Alamitos Heights. This year, we’ll be celebrating at a NEW location: Alamitos Heights Park (on Orlena & Vermont St.).
Donate: Attend the tree lighting and bring a donation. If not attending, Venmo or drop a check to our Board Member at 505 Ultimo Avenue.
Volunteer: Help during the event for an hour or two... serving hot chocolate, greeting, or as a Santa’s helper. It’s challenging to get event volunteers the day after Thanksgiving, so everyone makes a difference! Contact president@ahia.info
