AHIA started this idea at the end of the pandemic to help our neighbors reconnect. Now these gatherings are a popular new neighborhood tradition. From Spring to Fall, our neighbors gather in a casual front-yard setting to "Wine Down" from the busy week. While neighbors bring a beverage to share, AHIA provides a "Host Kit" to our generous host for opening up their home.
Contact our AHIA Coordinator, Janine Ransom, by text at 562-400-2915. She will share with you all the details on hosting.
Thank you to our Members, Season Host, and our 2026 Season Sponsor and Neighbor, Charles Chang of CMC Reality & Property Management. Thank you for your support in helping with our mission of "Building Community Together."

The Alamitos Heights Improvement Association (AHIA) would like to thank our Members, Season Sponsor, and most of all our Season Hosts for helping AHIA bring our Wine Down Friday gatherings to life.

Our annual Toss, Recycle, Shred Event is one of our most popular events that neighbors participate in. The last two years, we shredded over 3,000 lbs and filled a 40 ft dumpster!
It's Time to TOSS, SHRED & RECYCLE
Saturday, April 11th
9 AM – 12 PM
@ Alamitos Heights Park
corner of Vermont St. & Orlena Ave.
Clear out that clutter and do some good for the planet!
Bring your:
✅ Documents for secure shredding
✅ E-waste & Batteries (old electronics—last year we filled two huge bins!)
✅ Junk that’s been piling up in your garage (last year we packed a 40-ft dumpster! )
Important: Our bins get picked up at 12 PM sharp, so come early! The dumpster will close at noon or when full. Sorry, no paint.
This FREE event is just one of the many perks of being an AHIA member! Not a community member? You can still participate for a $45 fee, or better yet, join us today! Membership helps support events like this, strengthens our community, and gives you access to exclusive benefits. You can pay at the event check-in.
Let’s work together to keep our alleys and neighborhood clean and green! Spread the word, bring your junk, and let’s make this another successful cleanup!
See you Saturday, April 11th!
BIG thank you to @portoflongbeach for helping us sponsor this event! Shoutout to @thecclb for your assistance.

We Fund It: Since 1988, a large percentage of our non-profit budget has been dedicated to this tradition. AHIA not only helps fund this event but also helps subsidize “Trees on the Bay” in the Colorado Lagoon.
We Organize It: Our small team of volunteers secures the vendors, arranges for the carolers, the cookies, hot cocoa, and Santa—all while reaching out to sponsors to help cover costs to host this tradition of welcoming in the holiday season.
We Manage It: We are the ones on the ground, managing the logistics, permits, and safety for everyone who attends.

Last year, we had a record turnout of over 500 attendees from all across Long Beach at the Colorado Lagoon. Our small, all-volunteer nonprofit organization simply cannot support the management and security for a crowd of that size.
To ensure we can continue this cherished event safely and sustainably for our neighborhood, we are bringing this holiday tradition back to the heart of Alamitos Heights. This year, we’ll be celebrating at a NEW location: Alamitos Heights Park (on Orlena & Vermont St.).
Donate: Attend the tree lighting and bring a donation. If not attending, Venmo or drop a check to our Board Member at 505 Ultimo Avenue.
Volunteer: Help during the event for an hour or two... serving hot chocolate, greeting, or as a Santa’s helper. It’s challenging to get event volunteers the day after Thanksgiving, so everyone makes a difference! Contact president@ahia.info
The Bandshell at Recreation Park, a registered Historical Landmark since 1929, has hosted diverse events. Despite being underutilized recently, the Friends of Recreation Park Bandshell (FORPBS) aims to revive its glory. Your support for this local treasure is encouraged.
From March - October there is always something going on at The Shell. View Schedule HERE.
Thank you to our neighbor and board-member, Craig Wallace for making this fun video documenting our most cherished AHIA Event, the Colorado Lagoon Tree Lighting. A wonderful example of how membership drives our community non-profit, AHIA.
